'Enjoy yourself'

Experience

Last week (23rd June?), three months to the day after lockdown, the Government decided to announce an easing of restrictions starting 4th July. Johnson said 'enjoy yourself'. This coincided with sunny weather (the next two days were over 30 degrees) and then massive crowds at beaches and house parties as people followed his instructions. Police were attacked, fights broke out, and Bournemouth had to declare a major incident. Johnson then complained that people had not behaved but many people feel he lost the moral high-ground some time ago by not sacking Dominic Cummings. Now, many people are worried the relaxing being planned is too much, too soon and that the numbers of new cases and daily death rates are higher now than when lockdown started. Moreover, starting this on a Saturday (4th July) could lead to city centre no go areas as people take to the pubs and drink themselves senseless. A taste of this happened this week also as fans of Liverpool gathered in the city centre to celebrate winning the Premier League - police have now had to get a court order to close down parts of the city if needed.
