Story
Josef was Alexandra’s grandfather.
He was Polish under the occupation of Austria. He fought for Austria and was injured in the first month of the war where he was sent to Vienna Hospital to recover.
He was shot in the knee and this is where he met his wife, Maria Sand, who was nursing there at the time.
He survived WW1 but was shot by the Russians in WW2, in Katyn.
Mrs Creedy brought in a pestle & mortar which was made from a shell which Josef took home and had made into the pestle & mortar. Mrs Creedy used this up until about 2009 but it is now a decoration. Words on it read ‘Pro Patria ‘and ‘1914 - 1918’
