Story
Harold Pearse was born in Ermington, Devon, in 1892. Circa 1906 he joined the Army Cadets. He enlisted at Plympton into the Royal Devon Yeomanry on 19th February 1912. His training was done at Salisbury Plain. He went to France with the regiment on 4th December 1916. He was wounded in October 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele. He was declared unfit for service on 12th February 1918 and sent to Aberdeen for treatment for his wounds. On discharge was with 8th Battalion Devon Regiment. Harold Pearse when he was wounded (he had been shot) was lying in a shell hole; a German came up to Harold about to shoot him – when a shell exploded behind him and killed the German.
