Story

Theodore George Sheppard was the stepfather of the contributor, who was adopted by him as a child. Theodore was born in 1894, and joined the army at the start of the war, when he was twenty years old. He worked as a medical doctor, and during the Battle of the Somme was helping injured soldiers behind the front line. Luckily, he survived the war and returned to his family who lived near Kent once it was over. In 1914, he received a tobacco box which was issued to everyone in the British army by Princess Mary.
