Mabel Young’s photograph album was provided by her granddaughter, and includes pictures from her life prior to the outbreak of war as well as her period as a voluntary nurse during wartime. Also included are photographs of Bertie, Mabel’s fiancé, plus images from the Western Front, and others taken at war hospitals.
Story
Mabel Young volunteered as a nurse at the Princess Louise Hospital during the war.
She was engaged to be married to Bertie, who served in the Armed Forces, possibly as a Cameronian. While Mabel survived the war, Bertie was killed during the last battle of Ypres.
