Robert James


Robert James’ collection includes a letting listing the places that the Cameronians had travelled to. Another, addressed to his parents, is written from Machine Gun School.

A series of photographs show Robert James in uniform, pictured on the right in both group shots.
One photograph was taken the day before he joined up with the army.


Born in August 1899, Robert James joined up in August 1915 at the age of 15, informing the Army that he was 18. A member of the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles – Regiment No: 265924), he saw action in France then Gallipoli, and was in Egypt in 1916. He was wounded at some stage of his service.
