Story
2nd Lt George Ernest Cashmore initially served as a gunner in the South Midlands division from 1/4/1915. He was on anti-aircraft duty with the 3rd Army.
He only ever told funny stories about the war. On one occasion, he took fire out from a direct hit on the gun pit which had set the ammunition alight. He used his helmet and water from the shell hole to put the fire out. This showed great courage in a dangerous situation. He was promoted twice during the war.
George kept a diary full of watercolour photographs, but this has since been lost.
