Lieutenant Hoobs was a First World War pilot, as was the contributor’s relative, Walter Hughes. Both served in the Royal Flying Corps at the beginning of the First World War. They served on the Western front and they suffered a serious crash on 6th September 1915, Lt Hoobs may have survived the crash but died shortly after, Hughes himself lived and took with him a small part of the aircraft.
