Story

My father Frank and his brother Tom both joined the Somerset Light Infantry and went to India and after that Palestine. Both brothers joined up in Taunton. Frank trained at Lockstone, above Cheddar Gorge, Somerset. Frank was wounded by a shot in the chest in Palestine and put in a stretcher on the side of a camel and taken back to his company, which took a day or so. This illustrates the transport of the wounded in World War One overseas. He was discharged and then sent back to the UK by boat.

Tom had been in the TA before World War One.

Frank was an ARP warden in World War 2.
