Adam Stephen was my great uncle, my mother’s uncle. His date of birth was 11/05/1882. He lived in Stonehaven but emigrated to Canada during 1904 in his early 20’s, taking ship at Liverpool. He worked in mines there, and during the First World War he went to France as a tunneler. He enlisted on 02/06/1916 at Saskatoon and joined the 3rd Tunnelling Company, 3rd Canadian Engineers. His service number was 204853. He was killed in action on 21/05/1918, aged 36. He is buried at Lijsenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium, Plot XXVIII H.11.
