Story

Arthur Ernest Lane was a great uncle. He was born in 1881 at Brixton, Surry, England. His father was Robert Lane. He enlisted on 08/10/1900 into the West Riding Regiment. His regimental number was 6497. It is not known when he left the army. At some point he moved to Australia. On 19th August 1914 he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. His attestation paper shows that he joined the 4th Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade, and that prior to enlisting he was a miner. His regimental number was 337. He was killed in action on 10th November 1917 in Belgium.
