Story

Leonard Taylor was born on the 8th July, 1894 in Lye near Stourport. As he could drive and was employed as a mechanical engineer, when he enlisted, he was selected to join the Army Service Corps, and by September 1915, found himself in Egypt.

Two years later, possibly due to his suffering with malaria, Leonard was invalided out of the army and sent home having also spent some time serving in Palestine. As a result, in addition to his three campaign medals, Leonard was also awarded a Silver War Badge.

He talked little of his time in the army, but did share the constant need to run a lighted candle along the seams of his uniform to kill bugs and insects.
