Story

He volunteered in May 1915, and underwent twelve months of training before going to France. He was engaged in heavy fighting at Ploegsteert Wood, The Somme, Vimy Ridge, Bullecourt, Messines and Ypres. In September 1917 he was shot in the thigh and severely wounded. He was sent home and after a long period of hospital treatment discharged as medically unfit for further service in May 1918. He always had one leg shorter than the other. He holds the General Service and Victory medals.
