Story
Eliza Jane Nicol was born in Scotland in 1888 and was the aunt of the contributor. She served as a nurse during the First World War, near the end of the war. She worked in London and France and, in particular, on Ambulance Train 3, which carried injured soldiers from the coast to hospitals in Britain. The men who worked with Eliza on the train thought highly of her, so they gave her a silver and tortoise shell trinket box, with AT3 engraved on the lid, as a gift of recognition. It may have been an individual present or something that all the nurses were given. After the war she set up a nursing home.
