Story

George Bridge was killed on the 15th April, 1918 and is buried in Aire Communal Cemetery in Northern France.

During his service in the First World War, which dates back to 1915, he kept an autograph book in which he collected poems, drawings and words of wisdom from the many fellow officers and soldiers he met in various locations in England and France. These included many Australians in artillery units based around Salisbury Plain.

Some are amusing, others are more poignant including the final entry dated the 13th April, 1918:

"Edith now, Edith ever, Butcher now but not forever."
