Item
Title
William Ernest Paskin's model tank
Who?
William Ernest Paskin
Item(s)
A wooden model of a WWI tank, probably trench art
Story
William Ernest Paskins (contributor’s grandfather) was sent to the Dardanelles during the war. At some point, he acquired this wooden model of a tank. It is not known whether the model was made by himself or whether he purchased it from another soldier, but it is believed to be a piece of trench art. The slot in the turret suggests it was intended to be used as a money bank. Paskins never talked about the war itself, but his family knew it had given him the opportunity to travel and see the world.
