Story
William was the older brother to Private Frederick Hawkins, who died of his injuries, 10.10.15.
William was 40 years old in 1914. He lived at Harpham, near Driffield, East Yorkshire, and like his father before him he was a gamekeeper, and no doubt skilled with a rifle.
During WWI he was a Reservist. Invasion on the east coast was feared, especially after the bombing from the sea of Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool, 16 December 1914.
