Story
In 1932 the Herefordshire Regiment Old Comrades' Association published a booklet containing a copy of the Roll of Honour held in Hereford Cathedral. The copy from which these images are taken belonged to Emlyn James, who served with the regiment from 1914 to 1919. As NCO he often had to reply to enquiries from the wives and mothers of men who had died, and he said that writing letters which would give them comfort and minimise the horrors was one of the hardest things he had to do.
When?
1914-1919
Where?
All theatres of war where the Herefordshire Regiment served, principally Gallipoli, Egypt and Palestine, and the Western Front. However some men were attached to other regiments and served in other areas.
